The remaining cornerstones of Hellsinki Metal Festival lineup are now in place – featuring Paradise Lost, Carcass, and the rarely seen-in-Finland Cryptopsy and Unleashed, among others!
Hellsinki Metal Festival, taking place on August 7–8 at the Helsinki Ice Hall, has revealed the second wave of artists for this year’s event. Newly confirmed acts include Paradise Lost (UK), who released their critically acclaimed album Ascension last year, as well as the legendary Carcass. Among the rarer visitors to Finland at the upcoming festival are Canada’s long-running technical death metal force Cryptopsy, active for nearly 40 years, and Sweden’s Unleashed, which is considered one of the most essential Scandinavian death metal bands of all time.
The fourth edition of Hellsinki Metal Festival will also feature the most geographically distant addition to the lineup: Mawiza, founded in Wallmapu, South America. The band performs in the endangered Mapuzungun language and released their album Ül last July. U.S. death metal powerhouse Sanguisugabogg also released a new album, Hideous Aftermath, last year.
The Finnish lineup is further strengthened by Omnium Gatherum, celebrating their 30th anniversary this year alongside their new album May The Bridges Burn Light The Way, and Kalmah, who are known to leave their hometown of Pudasjärvi only for select live appearances. Other new additions include Cyan Kicks, Tungsten, Sepulchral Curse, Orly, Unleashed, Cryptopsy, Horizon Ignited, Misþyrming, and VREID.
Other performers at Hellsinki Metal Festival include Black Label Society, Accept, Opeth, Misþyrming & Nergal performing Behemoth’s Sventevith, and Carpenter Brut.
Last year, festival-goers experienced an upgraded and improved festival area, and development continues this year. In response to audience requests, HMF will place special emphasis on craft brewery offerings. The festival, which attracted 16,000 visitors over two days last year, saw its VIP (RIP) tickets sell out before the event.
